This page describes how we research and maintain both the directory and our flooring guides, so you can judge how much weight to give them. Our goal is to be useful and honest, not to overstate what we know. Where a guide relies on outside expertise, we name the source at the bottom of the article and link to it.

Directory Listings

The directory is intentionally narrow: flooring businesses serving the Shoals area of Northwest Alabama. We do not publish a nationwide or multi-state dataset here.

1. Inclusion. A business becomes a candidate when it is a flooring store, tile specialist, hardwood contractor, flooring contractor, or floor-care business with a presence in or near the Shoals.
2. Automated structural checks. Each record is checked programmatically for a plausible business name, a usable phone number or website, a structured address or service area, and consistent service categories. Records that fail these checks are held back.
3. Manual enrichment.We selectively review records by hand, confirming details such as address, phone, hours, and specialties against the business's own published information. This enrichment is selective rather than universal — not every record has been hand-checked.
4. Owner submissions. Businesses can submit or claim their own listing, which lets an owner publish accurate, first-party details such as services, hours, and current contact information.

Because businesses change over time, and because not every listing is owner-verified or personally contacted by our team, a listing is best treated as a starting point. Always confirm current hours, licensing, and insurance directly with the business.

Flooring Guides

Our guides are written for Shoals-area homeowners by the Shoals Flooring Directory Editorial Team. They are original to this site and aimed at practical decisions in a humid subtropical climate.

• Sourcing.Guides cite authoritative, publicly available references — such as the U.S. EPA, the Federal Trade Commission, Ready.gov, the National Wood Flooring Association, manufacturer installation instructions, and recognized industry associations. Each sourced guide lists its references at the end of the article.
• Priority of product instructions.We are explicit in our guides that the specific manufacturer's installation and warranty instructions govern any flooring decision, not a general rule of thumb from an article.
• No fabricated data.We do not invent test results, prices as “exact,” or credentials. Cost ranges are presented as ranges, and we point readers to local professionals for project-specific quotes.
• Review and updates.Sourced guides carry a publication date and, where the article has been revised, a visible “updated” date. We update guidance when the underlying standards or guidance change.

What We Don't Do

• We don't claim to have installed flooring or to be installers.
• We don't present our aggregate ratings as the result of an independent, live review process; they are maintained in directory data alongside each listing.
• We don't accept payment for editorial recommendations in guides (see advertising disclosure).

If a guide is out of date, a source link is broken, or a listing is wrong, please tell us. Our editorial policy describes how we handle corrections.
